WestNet are seriously considering using Alcatel instead. For example, _don't_ 
use the command-line confiuration on the DSL-500, it breaks things randomly. 
With that said, I have several WestNet-plus-DSL-500 customers who run quite 
happily in PPPoE and encapsulated-bridged (type 4) mode.
