FYI (as-is, not wrapped):

    [user at hostname dir]$ cat /etc/issue
    Mandrake Linux release 9.0 (dolphin) for i586
    Kernel 2.4.19-16mdk on an i686 / \l

The \l turns into your terminal line (tty1 for the first console) on display.
