Sorry to reply so late. I'm out for this weekend. Some things transcend even XBox hacking :)

I don't think it'd be a rush to do the hardware mod (sans chip insertion) in three or so hours. But I see what you mean about the lag till the next one.
What was the prognosis on flashing the BIOS directly following those links I sent ? Its a "solder two small blobs on the motherboard to get erase/write access to the flash chip" mod. Not very taxing. Nick B. ventured: "you'd have to get it riight first time" then reflected: "if it didn't work then you could put on the 27-wire mod". This all sounded of robust Nick-like logic (as usual). What's your verdict ?
