Yes that's a safe bet. You also want to get a serial modem to save 
yourself some USB hassle.
If you'd rather an internal modem, I'd recommend the Netcomm IN5710. 
It's a proper hardware V92 modem, and in my experience performs 
flawlessly under linux.
