[plug] problem with CD Writer in Linux

one of my friends is having this problem:

"i have bought a sony cd-writer. linux detected the hardware and installed it perfectly. but i cannot write any cd (using koncd or kreatecd) as the programs keep searching for scsi device whereas my cd-writer is ide-connected. what can i do, anyone pls suggest?"
