I followed the trail, and ended up reading Sun docs. If the Linux 
implementation is the same, then & matches the whole name, so it wouldn't 
work as I want it... Ah well...

I'm taking another look at avfs and fuse - but it seems avfs development 
stopped a while ago, and fuse doesn't have (m)any practical example 
filesystems. Although they DO have python & perl interfaces in CVS. Mmmm, 
virtual filesystem written in a scripting language. *cackles evilly*

And I'm still hanging out for a well supported layered virtual file system. 
(Where two or more FS's appear as one, layered. eg; Layer a RO CD-ROM FS with 
a RW FS (RAM, Disk, etc...) to support edits...)
