Richard Meyer noted that MS were licensing the FAT.

Given that this isn't a troll, surely the FAT is by now well into the 
public domain?   After all it arose yonks ago and MS has taken no action 
until now.   So this IS a troll, right??   Either that, or a very smart 
(and belated?) move to force out file system compatibility.
