A bridged connection is a layer 3 connection. All data is routed to you
via a /30 IP subnet via Telstra. So you have one IP from the /30 on the
external interface on your router and the other one is on the Telstra
endpoint router. On layer 3 pppoe, when you traced you used to get a
couple of 172.x.x.x hops - one of those hops becomes the bridged
endpoint. There is of course no ppp encapsulation on it, as there is no
authentication required. So this has the advantage of removing one
thing from possibly causing you to have issues.

Its generally used to route IP address subnets (anything from a small
one, to a full /24). And yes, WestNet will do this if you request it.
We're with WestNet at work and our connection is bridged.
