For querying devices or configuring them? Obviously, the most common
activity is polling devices for information. Either way, you may find
some documentation in your equipment vendors' documentation (e.g. which
MIBs are supported, what they contain). You can of course extend this to
monitoring workstations and servers with general-purposes OSes like
Linux (just run a daemon). You might do this so that you can integrate
monitoring into your larger SNMP-based framework. You may also wish to
set up traps, so that you receive notification of 'events' that your
equipment generates. I'm not sure what people here will recommend, but
one starting place might be news:comp.protocols.snmp, where there would
probably be recommendations and experiences.
