Excellent... After a coupla hours struggling with it, I finally have
2.6.0 booting and running X. :)
Summary, for those trying to get it working:
- for those with LVM, get LVM2 installed, the old LVM mapper's no good
with this kernel.
- for those with nvidia cards, get the patch from minion.de to get the
drivers built with 2.6
- make sure that the 'module-init-tools' package is installed (that's
the name of the package under Debian Unstable & Slackware, dunno about
other distros) if you want 2.6 modules to work properly
- GRUB rocks :)
- don't forget to do make modules && make modules_install ;)
- add an fstab entry for sysfs - it's got useful stuff, like the i2c
stuff needed to read temperature & other sensors. Manually mount with
'mount -t sysfs sysfs /sys' gkrellm2 will automagically read the data
from there.
Impressions:
For some reason, my mouse is more sensitive under X now, and a number of
other X things seem to be smoother/faster (like wmdrawer).
Issues:
- Seems my LVM setup still needs some tweaking - got some issues on
reboot (haven't shut down yet, so probably on shut down as well).
- I get "cdrom: open failed" repeated 20 times or so on boot... have to
look into it.
