Primary concern is to be able to download the pic's and videos onto my
laptop running mandrake 9 over usb (no serial or parallel ports or firewire
available)

The purpose of the camera is for holiday snap's to load onto my homepage
and/or email to friends.  Small movies for taking in scene's would also
handy.  2MP is pretty much adequate for my needs - any more than that is a
bonus afaiac. 8-)
