A safe rule of thumb here is :

Install the weakest operating system first, as follows :->

DOS (3-6.2) --> Windows 95-98SE --> Windows NT --> Windows 2K --> Windows XP
--> Linux

It doesn't matter if you don't have all the above, just pick the ones you do
have and install in the order shown above.

As for Windows ME - don't install it all - use the CD as a drink coaster,
besides Windows 98SE with all updates  and patches installed has a smaller
footprint and is much better than ME.
