[plug] fetchmail skipping messages

I have fetchmail retrieving via POP3 for about 15 accounts.  No problems
for months and now a couple of accounts show this:

Jan 17 12:34:45 localhost fetchmail[583]: 2 messages (2 seen) for
foo at bar.com at mail.foo.bar (148792 octets). 
Jan 17 12:34:45 localhost fetchmail[583]: skipping message
foo at bar.com@mail.foo.bar:1 (143675 octets) not flushed 
Jan 17 12:34:45 localhost fetchmail[583]: skipping message
foo at bar.com@mail.foo.bar:2 (5117 octets) not flushed 

The messages are sitting in the account and fetchmail has never
downloaded them.  New messages that arrive get read no problems.  Point
any email client to the external mail server and it downloads the
messages and fixes the problem.

Has anybody seen this?
