[plug] smbmount error

Russ,

Samba doesn't work if you try to mount with an IP address. You MUST use a
name. Best way is just add it to your hosts file. I have not found this
documented anywhere and have spent a bit of time finding it out for myself.

Hope this helps,
Phil.

Subject: [plug] smbmount error

Hi,

I'm trying to mount a shared w2k directory. I get this error and I'm
stumped.
The drive doesn't require a pass word but tried the usual guest username
password combinations. Have tried man smbmount but didn't see anything.

#smbmount //192.168.1.104/inout /my_mounts/inout/
1532: session request to 192.168.1.104 failed (Called name not present)
1532: session request to 192 failed (Called name not present)
Password:
mount.smbfs[1533]: ioctl failed, res=-1

Thanks.
russ
