Yes, and I've done it on occasion. For example, I'll use a dialup at 
work to remain connected to iiNet's backup service when the DSL is down. 
When the DSL comes back up, cool - just disconnect the dialup. If the 
dialup account was with another provider, it would be quite possible to 
keep both up and running at the same time. You'd have to run some kind 
of smart routing, but there would be no issue with line sharing. Note 
that your 56k performance /may/ not be overly good with a line filter 
and a line shared with DSL, though.
