[plug] proftpd and anonymous login

have beaten my head on enough walls this evening.

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with my ftp server that it won't
allow anonymous connections?

Here is error I receive when asked to enter password:

Connected to 192.168.0.2.
220 ProFTPD 1.2.8 Server (Coven @ home) [Coven]
Name (192.168.0.2:grail): anonymous
331 Anonymous login ok, send your complete email address as your
password.
Password:
530-Unable to set anonymous privileges.
530 Login incorrect.
Login failed.

am happy to send any config files if required?
