While I cannot provide you with specific pricing, let me make a few
observations:

     1. If you're within line of sight you can make a wireless
        connection using 802.11.
     2. You could install a PAPL link.
     3. You could also talk to Telstra Countrywide who have just
announced untimed ISDN and Bigpond ISDN for those of us who
        cannot use ADSL.
     4. You can talk to requestDSL for a microwave connection
     5. You can run multiple phone lines in parallel - which strangely
enough gives you great performance, low cost and redundancy.
     6. Depending on whether you need download or upload, you might be
able to install either a one-way or two-way satellite link.

Finally, while I don't know where your main office is, AFAIK most
exchanges now have ADSL installed, and your limitation is within 3.5Km
from the exchange. (And no pair-gain etc...)

There is a multitude of options available at more or less cost. It's not
surprising that "semi-technical management" doesn't know the real
answer. As an illustration, it took me 18 months to decide on how I
would connect to the world, even then the supplier told me that it would
never work - the fact that you're reading this email just highlights
that sometimes the supplier is not well informed :-)

Kind regards,
