I don't know about RH8, but I wouldn't try any multithreaded apps 
compiled for RH9. RH9 moved to Next Generation POSIX Threads (NGPT) 
which can cause backward compatability issues. Hence the major version 
number change from 8 to 9, indicating possible binary incompatability.

They went from 7 to 8 because of binary-incompatable changes too (glibc 
upgrade?) so it might be an idea to see if you can rebuild the SRPMs 
before you try kludging the compiled RPM in.
