I run debian on my server and workstation (play time) and I love having 7
cds that I can install software from. I like to copy all the debs and stuff
from cd so that I don't have to keep changing cds when installing stuff
especially as I'm some distance from the server.
Previous servers have had different methods to store the packages. One time
I dd the cd's to ISO images and mounted them all on separate mounts, I
would like to try this method except compress the ISO similar to the way
knoppix does. The other method is copy all the files off the cd from its
root directory into its own directory. Problem with this is that I need a
directory for each cd and I can't compress them.
What I wish to do is store the packages as ether compressed ISOs that I can
mount or as a single tree. Also when I get updates (KDE packages on cd)
they aren't in trees so I can't apt-get them I have to install by hand and
resolve dependances manully.
Could someone please tell me a method to store the files in a compressed
method and also how to add files to the packages tree so I can apt-get them.
Thanks
Tim
