<sales pitch>
Benefits of self-compilation granted, the marillat packages are very
well done. I don't know anything about mplayer except how to make it do
what I want it to and I can't imagine much difference between how they
were compiled for 686 (in my case) and how I'd tweak it. Have you tried
those pacakges? I'd be interested to hear what the speed difference
really is from someone who has seen the benefits of a source compile.

Mine runs flawlessly, haven't got a single thing to complain about, if
it were any more optimised it would probably be a waste as I wouldn't
notice it ... and I have a spare few hours, which is really the main
reason I installed it that way :)

Life's full of compromises it seems :)
