[plug] Boot stopping on sound setting

Hi,

I've loaded Suse 8 onto a laptop (generic no-name).
After linux has been installed, it starts up and runs
kde. Everything works happily.

I then shut down and restart. While it is booting it
gets to the point where it says:

Starting sound driver:  intel8x0          done
Restoring the previous sound setting

At this point it stops and will go no further. I've
left it over night and it still hasn't moved.

Any thought on what could be the problem or if not,
what's the easiest way to disable sound so it's not
loaded at start?
