Hi List,

I am a Linux newbie (relatively) and am using Redhat 8 connecting to iinet, but I cannot get my ethernet ADSL running. I tried the default version of rp-pppoe (3.4.7) with no success, and so have upgraded to the latest version (3.5.1) but am still failing to get connected. I am at the end of my tether here and am quite willing to pay for someone to come and set it all up!

I have the following configuration:

redhat8machine
   |
hub----ADSLmodem+-----phoneline-----internet
   |
other(windows)machines

and to simplify it I reduced the network to:

redhat8machine---ADSLmodem+-----phoneline-----internet

Either of these configurations works fine for a MAC machine with a third party gateway program for ADSL stuff, so I know the modem works and the connection from the modem to the world is ok and setup correctly. The ADSL fails with LCP timeout in /var/log/messages and a message that the "NET unregister event not supported".

I never see the Tx/Rx lights flash. I have run the adsl-start program in debug mode and it tells me that the ipchains command is not found! I presume because iptables are used in Redhat8. Am I ever going to get this program to work or should I revert to 3.4.7 of the rp-pppoe (ie the default)?

I also note that there is a route using the old gateway of 192.168.1.254 that it mentions I should delete from the route table. Umm <sheepish>, where do I find this table?

Our ISP provides a static IP address and I have changed my ethernet card to have this static ip address and the gateway address that they provided, but this doesn't work either. I always get the same sorts of errors in /var/log/messages:

Any ideas?
