IIRC you are running Mandrake. Start up the "mandrake administration" (or
whatever it's called), enter the root password when prompted, click the
"software" option, click "install software", and then make sure that you
install the software for a "development system". Make sure you click on gcc
libraries, etc.
Be aware that I'm working from memory here, and the exact names between
quotes may be different.
Basically, we're just making sure that you have all the libraries, and such
that you may need to run almost any application.
