| conflict?

You may be right... but then you wouldn't be able to have netbase and
inetutils-ifconfig installed simultaneously, which would be dodgy.
Calling inetutils' binary something other than ifconfig would probably
be a better solution.

After reading through another bug filed on inetutils it sounds as though
(a) all of inetutils is very beta; and (b) inetutils' ifconfig was
designed to give Debian GNU Hurd an ifconfig, which will eventually
become command-line compatible with netkit's. Probably.

| Huh? Half the stuff in the alternatives system is incompatible from
| a command-line perspective. That's why you need to be able to select
| those alternatives.

A lot of the stuff in alternatives are vague like "x-window-manager" and
so on. ifconfig interacts only through the command line, and two
ifconfigs with completely different command-line syntax, one of which
has been around since forever, is just asking for trouble.

Cameron.
