Have you tried "rmmod uhci; insmod usb-uhci" (as root)?  That should 
take out the "uhci" module and install the "usb-uhci" module, at least 
in the currently running kernel.  You'd probably have to do something 
else to make it permanent, but this might allow you to get it running.
