Mandrake 9.1 includes the 'ntfsresize' program, which will solve your
problem.
I originally had errors from both ntfsresize, and Partition Magic.
But then I tried using the command-line 'chkdsk' which scheduled the
check/fix for reboot, and fixed it. The GUI
properties->tools->error-checking had found nothing. So run 'chkdsk -f'
first. You may need to defrag too, as ntfsresize will not move files.
Nor does it resize the partition. Use fdisk, as the manual says.

You shouldnt need to activate, if it comes on the laptop.
I did try re-installing WinXP from scratch from the CD, after
repartitioning, which did require activation, which went OK.
But obtaining all the drivers, bundled apps, and config was too much
hassle. Especially since HP/Compaq outsourced the support to India.
So I did the "quick recovery" which restores the hard disk to as-sold
state.
Now I need to get ACPI and the winmodem working.
Does anyone else run Linux on the current-series full-size HP/Compaq
laptops?
I refuse the call them "notebooks". "Telephone book" would be more
accurate.
