[plug] Modules problem with PPC Debian machine

I installed the kernel images from apt and I'll check exactly what it is
pointing to in BootX.
depmod -av
gives a whole bunch of failure messages (none of the things is tried to
check work)
Should I just reinstall the system or is there away to fix it?
