I'm about to purchase a inspirion 8600, seems for the most part it will
work fine with Linux apart from the mini PCI wireless card. I have a
choice of:
Intel Pro 2100
TrueMobile 1300
TrueMobile 1400
none of which have Linux drivers. As expected Dell doesn't want to know
about the problem and are not interested as soon as Linux is mentioned.
So it seems my options are to either go with a PCMCIA card or try and
find an mini PCI card that will work. I'd prefer to use an internal one
to make use of the inbuilt antenna and because I'll more than likely
snap the antenna off a PCMCIA card.
mini PCI cards seem suprisingly difficult to find but I have been told
that the netgear WG311 pci adapter contains a mini pci card under the
metal casing and this does work with linux (PRISM chipset)
Anyone else faced this problem or got comments ?
On a related note has anyone managed to claim a refund for Windows from
Dell?
