Works on my RH8 server @work with current RH 2.4.18-27.8.0smp kernel:

using the e1000 driver. It does /not/ appear to work on my 2.4.18 based 
Debian Woody gateway box @work using the 8139too driver for rtl8139A 
chips - ethtool can't get link status from those, at least that version 
with that kernel.
