modprobe ide-tape
/dev/MAKEDEV ht0
mt -f /dev/ht0 status
mt -f /dev/ht0 erase
etc..
find /<files-to-backup> -print | cpio -oa --block-size=512 --format=crc -O
/dev/ht0    ...or whatever similar
