As a relative newbie can I pose one of the most obvious questions - is there
a tape in the drive???
I ask this as I know with my SCSI DS2 drive that very little is working
unless the tape is in the drive. Possibly why some things see it and some
dont???
Just a thought

Nope, walked through it step by step. Even set the BIOS to not boot
quickly with no effect.
I've just checked again, still no ide1.
Both the controllers appear to be on. The BIOS reports three devices,
two HDD, one TAPE. There appear to be no controllers turned off
explicitly. The Secondary Master is set to [AUTO] (Which is what I
normally set everything to).
Any other ideas?
