This is where it gets when I try to install:
/home/russ# apt-get install deborphan

The "serious warning" seemed a good sign to me that three hours was more than
enough and something else was wrong. :)
I can't imagine what kind of hardware problem could cause just one package to
die.
It causes all sorts of trouble when I apt-get update and apt-get upgrade.
Everything else works but that package.
I'd be happy now just to get rid of it, But it won't let me do that.
I'll try reiserfsck.
