(In my experience, deborphan takes far less than a second on all systems
I have to far tested.) If the process was (and still is) truly
unkillable -- that is, it falls into Linux's "uninterruptable" state --
I would think that you should suspect a hardware problem (or maybe a
corrupted filesystem).
