The dhcpd from solaris 2.6 pings before handing out the address, and if
it gets a reply, marks that address as permanently unusable. The ping
seems like a reasonable thing to do, but marking it permanently unusable
seems a bit heavy handed.
I had assumed that all dhcp servers would do something similar.
