I must admit that when working on our XP box at work (TNT2, AMD Duron 
1GHz) I find myself thinking "Gee, I can watch the windows redraw just 
like on a Linux X11 desktop..."

As for the OP: Considered picking up a cheap Athlon and motherboard? A 
basic board can be had for $90 and a CPU for ... uggh, what happened to 
CPU prices? I bought my Athlon 2800+ for less than the "Sempron" 2600+ 
is going for now. Forget I said anything.
