It may not be possible dependng on the distro.

All the distros are different, for Redhat/Fedora has a .discinfo file
in the root of the filesystem, which the installer uses to determine
which cd it is currently using. I can assure from experience that
without it anaconda will refuse to install. I doubt this could be
overwritten.

Depeding on your aim an alternate solution is a http/nfs/ftp install.
With nfs you can leave all the isos on the network as is and the
installer will mount them as a loopback drive, you only need a cd 1 or
a boot floppy to do a full install.

Anyone comment on other distros?
