Yeah. Even people using at home as you listed in the second category
(the ones that prefer to use it) would probably at least have AVG
running. There are also plenty of technical Windows users that get by
without a virus scanner but use other safe practises like keeping their
software updated and not opening silly attachments in the first place as
well as perhaps using an ISP like arachnet that automatically scans
e-mail attachments.

Still if you know how to use Linux it's silly to still use Windows.
Although there are some apps that haven't been ported or made to cleanly
run under WINE yet as a general rule of thumb if it doesn't work with
Linux you probably don't need it anyway. But if you *really* do need it
then invest in a KVM or you can just VNC. 

Now for non-technical users on the otherhand that probably don't quite
know the meaning of term open-source let alone even source-code the
story is a bit different. Glad I'm not one of them. (:
