Hmm... I'm not terribly familiar with the NT1 plus 2 so I am taking a
stab in the dark here. You may want to set the header compression
options so that you have no header compression at all. You may also need
to fiddle with the init strings. There is very little to nothing on the
net with regards to getting it working with Linux, but the discussion
seems to be about the init strings and a preference for using wvdial
(which you are using) I got this from google

"Hehe, good luck. I stuffed around with mine for about 4 weeks
now and I have it pretty right now, thanks to some help from
manufacturer. I'll include the strings here:
First init line:
AT

Second init line:
ATE0V1&D2&C1!T0=255!Z=9Z

Third init line:
ATS30=0&K3
That's it! One thing, though, KDE does not like those modems at all. So
get yourself Wvdial (up to nine init strings) or you can use the RH
netcfg dialler and invoke it with ifup pppX and close with ifdown pppX.
I found that Wvdial does a better job. In RH play around with MRU, I've
got mine set to 552 at the moment but am still fine tuning. Also watch
that the first time you try to run that string it can take up to 4
minutes to get up and running (no idea why) but after that it connects
every time instantly. One more thing make sure if you can only use one
init line that "!Z=9Z" is the very last bit in the string. Then keep
watch on throughput just in case it slows down and adjust the MRU
setting to suit. Alternatively you can use AT&F which will connect but
at a very conservative speed. In options you could put "asyncmap 0" but
I'm not quite sure whether it makes one iota of difference. Hope this'll
get you up and running,"

You would probably have to look at NT1 Plus II user guide as what the
commands are. It can be downloaded from

http://www.opennw.com/support/Telstra_NT1_Plus_II/Documentation.htm

Hope this helps, Sorry I can't give you any more help. As I said I don't
have a lot of experience with the NT1 plus II.

Yeah, I went to John Forrest, class of 92 I think. I remember your name.
My memory starts to get a bit foggy back then, such a long time ago. :-)
How's things?

Troy.
