I thought I might add a few thoughts of my own of the conference so far.

I went to the OSS in Government mini-conf. There were some interesting
presentations during Monday starting off with Ian Gilfillan (SA
Democrat). My favourite session would've probably had been with a guy
by the name of Avi Miller from NOIE. I personally found his
presentation on the new CMS setup that NOIE is implementing for their
web site rather interesting.

On Tuesday up stepped Kate Lundy, I missed about the first 15 minutes of
her talk. She talked for around 45 minutes and seemed to have at least
a partial grasp of the topic. She knew enough to speak without reading
everything off of a piece of paper parrot fashion. A representative of
Daryl Williams came and really was... ummm.. yeah. Basically he spoke
for around 10 minutes and was reading everything off of an obviously
prepared speech. From the way he spoke it, I wouldn't have been
surprised if hadn't even wrote it anyway. Unlike at the end of Kate
Lundy's piece, he didn't take any questions and immediately got another
fella from NOIE up to about stuff.

They had a panel discussion with Kate Lundy, Ian Gilfillan, Dan Shearer
and a lady whose name eludes me who is a former president of the ACS.
Some of the responses were rather interesting, with Dan Shearer really
giving some great responses.

This morning (Wednesday) I went to the Administration of NSA Security
Enhanced Linux session with Russell Coker. Basically I was aiming to
get a general overview of what it was all about, and I achieved that.
Russell Coker went into very significant detail in his presentation, a
lot of which went waaaay over my head, but I understood enough of it to
get what the basic principles and workings of what SE Linux is all about.

I went to the PHP Tricks and Tips session this afternoon with Rasmus
Lerdof (sp?). I'm not into coding PHP (yet anyway), but the way he
presented it made it very easy to understand what he was talking about.

And yes, I did see Linus wandering around a couple of times during the
session breaks. :)
