Agree.

Kate's public performance is excellent, and I think far exceeds her
actual knowledge of the topic - but having said that her actual
knowledge is clearly head and shoulders above that of the bulk of the
pollies around her.

Another bloke whom I'd love to see in politics even if only to displace
some self-interested placeholder is Stephen Donaldson (no, not the
author of White Gold Wielder &c; and I have a customer named Stephen
King who is also not a famous author).

Steve runs the IT training crew at Adelaide TAFE, and as part of the
educationaLinux tour of the TAFE he gave a detailed explanation (well,
story, really) of how they arranged to turn "over my dead body" into
*requests* for Open Source software.

Steve held us spellbound for the entire talk, and not just because of
his Scotch accent. He really, really knows what he is doing and
understands how to work the system to achieve his ends - in an entirely
above-board, legally and morally correct way. I really wish we'd been
able to tape his talk, it'd be an inspiration and a lesson which Linux
advocacy would hopefully never recover from. (-:

Cheers; Leon
