TechTopia is local, and has been very helpful to those of us running the
"WaFreeNet" (www.wafreenet.org) - Jamie can tell you which cards will and
won't work under Linux, and what the various issues with them are.

See http://www.techtopia.com.au/

Chipsets: Hermes based (Orinoco, Avaya gold, Enterasys etc) are great,
solid and reliable PCMCIA cards, and Prism2 based cards (esp the Senao)
also work well, and can easily be used with the HostAP
(http://hostap.epitest.fi/) driver as a Linux based Access Point.

I've not had much experience with PCI cards, preferring to use a
PCI->PCMCIA or ISA->PCMCIA cradle instead - but ask Jamie what he
recommends.

For a hardware access point, check out the SVEC FD1811a
(http://www.techtopia.com.au/product_info.php/cPath/1_5/products_id/637)

They are cheap and work great.

Regards,

 - Matt
