Mutt also supports running over ssh reasonably well even through lousy
links.  Easy choice for me...

(Mutt has its own [ai]spell interface for those that like spelling
checkers.  It also supports Emacs which can do spell checking and,
coming around in full circle, includes its own mail reader. :-P)
