Now your ringing bells (in my head) yeah, I think your right there.. It was
quite a while ago.. and I didn't really pay much attention at the time.. You
got to admire the convictions of the bloke.. he held a rigid control of the
au stuff for quite a while..

**disclaimer**
I may have been wrong about the melb IT stuff.. I have a very rusty memory
for this information, but for some reason I can't directly remember I have a
dislike of the melb IT organization. But that's just personal opinion.. and
only worth the value you allocate it.

Yeah, Robert Elz. He was delegated by ICANN as the Australian rep. I
seem to remember that when they later tried to persuade him to give up
the job in favour of Melbourne IT he refused.

I thought he transferred control direct to AuDA, having _refused_ to
hand over to MelbIT?

As for the scams - the ACCC tends to stomp on them, as they _are_
misleading and generally dodgy. Hence the term scam.
