1 - Consider using Partition Magic Emergency Boot disks
2 - Get hold of a spare hard drive of sufficient capacity
3 - Copy all partitions from hard drive(1) to spare hard drive(2)
4 - You will then have two copies of your hard drive
5 - Remove/disconnect hard drive 2
6 - Do whatever you want/need to fix hard drive 1 - if all goes belly up -
at least you have a copy of everything on the second hard drive
