I agree, distcc does provide a gain, but its often minor, and is highly
variable depending on a number of factors.
"emerge unmerge x" will uninstall the file, however if you are running
ccache as well (and you should be if interested in compile performance),
deinstall it whilst benchmarking distcc. Also try and measure caching
effects - you may need to reboot each machine between runs to get a
clean run.
Doing this accurately and meaningfully is not as easy as it first seems
...
