The original writer may have been using a word processor which was capable of saving in various
formats - and may have meant to say "Microsoft Office 97" instead of 'Windows 97' -

>From my past experience - it is possible to use a later version of Microsoft Office and create and
save documents which can be opened in earlier versions of MS Office.

ie : If you create a document in MS Office 2000 'default' mode - you cannot open this document
natively in MS Office 95 or 97 without a special converter - and you risk losing vital data from
the document. But if it is saved in MS Office 97 mode it can be opened in MS Office 97 but not in
MS Office 95 - if you get my drift.
