Correct, and the in-line units perform better than the little line filters
that come with the ADSL modem. We couldn't get our ADSL running through a
line filter at Computer Angels and had an in-line filter installed by one
man show called:

It worked a treat and will probably cost you closer to $100 than $250
including the line filter. Check his prices now.
So if anyone has dropouts or poor performance on an ADSL that is some
distance from the exchange then a better filter may help. The one he
supplied (don't know the brand) had both three RJ-11 connectors and three
internal Krone blocks (for hard wiring) so you could purchase a filter
and try it out as a replacement (using the RJ-11s) to see if it improves
your ADSL and then have it hardwired if you have multiple phone circuits or
need to install an a alarm in Mode 3 (which needs hard wiring).
