Have you considered upgrading XFree86 to something somewhat less
ancient? As XFree86 has the drivers packaged with the X server, this is
usually the way to obtain updated video drivers that'll recognise newer
hardware, or hardware that was supported late.

I'm sure there are backports or unofficial packages of 4.3 around
somewhere.
