Hi Steve;

The "No devices detected" message does not necessarily refer to devices
detected by lspci. In order to start a server X needs a video card it
knows how to drive and "Monitor" that has "HorizSync" and "VertRefresh"
that corresponds to a "Screen". If the server exhausts the possibilities
defined by these parameters then it cannot find a device.

You need to post more infomation. Please post your XF86Config-4 and the
result of X -probeonly. To get the last type the following in a virtual
terminal:

X -probeonly > x.errors

and post x.errors. This file will show X knocking out Screens and for
what reason it is.
