Okay, scrap the bit about checking /etc/hosts first.  I've just done a
test to satisfy myself and it looks more like gethostbyname() uses the
dns/files/nis etc in the order gives for hosts in the /etc/nsswitch file.
So if you have dns first and then files it will use that first.
